Baia Del Sole, Ortonovo, Liguria

The Baia Del Sole story begins in Ortonovo in the Colli di Luni region, where the Fededici family’s involvement in viticulture stretches back over a century, with roots in farming and grape growing from the early 1900s.

In 1985, Isa and Giulio Federici restored an old country farmhouse in Luni and formally founded the family winery, La Baia del Sole. From the start their mission was clear: to focus on quality viticulture and “give voice” to the land’s native grapes, especially Vermentino, combining passion, patience and experience that had been handed down through generations.

The name La Baia del Sole (the Bay of the Sun) reflects the deep connection to local history and terroir, where Roman heritage and the Apuan Alps meeting the sea shape the character of their wines.

Today, the estate represents four generations of Federici winemakers. The next generation, Andrea and Luca, carry forward the family legacy: Andrea tends the vineyards and commercial side, while Luca oversees the cellar as enologist, ensuring quality and tradition continue to evolve together.

Their Vermentino Oro d’Isée even honours an ancestor, Great-Great-Grandfather Iseo, celebrating his habit of selecting only the best grapes to create small, treasured batches for special family moments, a tradition now revived in every bottle.
