Veneto, Three Ways
Veneto, Three Ways
One region, three cellars, three very different ideas of what Veneto wine can be. Tonight we bring together Cornelia Tessari's Soave hills, Cantine Sandre's Piave plains, and Cantina di Monteforte's volcanic Valpolicella soils, across six wines that rarely share a table.
We open with two whites from Cornelia Tessari, both 100% Garganega, both DOCG, told two different ways: Bine Longhe, named for the 300-metre "long rows" of the Costalta vineyard, then I° Ettaro, an appassimento-style Soave aged in the concrete vats that belonged to the family's founding grandfather (named for the very first hectare the estate was built on).
From there into red: Black Lava, grown on Monteforte's volcanic basalt soils, fruit-forward and easy; Raboso, Cantine Sandre's structured, dry, indigenous red from the Piave, built for the table rather than the glass alone; and Amarone, Monteforte's DOCG flagship, grapes dried in the lofts until January before fermentation.
We close on Passito "aMora," Cantine Sandre's honeyed dessert wine, named for Nonna Dorotea, the woman who spent decades welcoming travelers to the estate's table.
